The FAIRTRADE Mark is the exclusive property of Fairtrade Labelling Organisations (FLO) International and internationally registered as a trademark (EU no. 0026 06 994. UK national registrations no. 2477914 & World Intellectual Property (WIPO) no. 806 431).

As a certification label the FAIRTRADE Mark may be used only in direct relation to products that are certified in accordance with Fairtrade standards. The Mark can also be reproduced on printed promotional materials to encourage people to purchase Fairtrade certified products.

IMPORTANT: For all new packaging and promotional materials requiring approval for Fairtrade Fortnight 2009, please submit your artwork to artwork@fairtrade.org.uk before Friday 12 December.  The period leading up to Fairtrade Fortnight is very busy and the FAIRTRADE Mark Management team will endeavour to approve artwork submitted after the 12 December but allow at least 4 weeks (excluding 24 December to 4 January) for approval.

Before using the Mark on your packaging or promotional materials, you must receive written approval from the FAIRTRADE Mark Management team, by submitting your artwork to artwork@fairtrade.org.uk. Ensure three weeks lead time is built into your critical path from first submission to approval.  In order to apply the FAIRTRADE Mark correctly to your materials, you must follow the appropriate guidelines:

  • Licensee Promotional Materials Manual.  This is currently being written and will be available by the end of 2008. If you are a licensee wishing to create promotional materials, please download the Campaigner and Supporter Promotiomal Materials Manual and refer to all sections except 13, 14 and 15.
  • Manual for Packaging (for companies that have signed a Licence Agreement with the Fairtade Foundation) - please email manuals@fairtrade.org.uk to request the Packaging Manual, stating your company name, contact details and licensee reference code.

The use of the term "Fairtrade" (one word) is reserved by the Fairtrade Foundation as a description of products and transactions involving products that meet international Fairtrade standards.

The FAIRTRADE Mark is also available in Illustrator EPS - please e-mail us or call 020 7440 7629.

PLEASE NOTE: Unless a product application has been approved by the Commercial Relations Team AND a signed valid Licence Agreement is in existence covering the product(s) in question, artwork cannot be approved. In addition artwork and use of the FAIRTRADE Mark is not approved unless you have received written confirmation from the Fairtrade Foundation.
