Fairtrade Synagogues

Background

In Fairtrade Fortnight 2006, the Fairtrade Synagogues scheme was launched with the first Synagogues receiving Fairtrade Synagogue certificates in Birmingham on Thursday 9th March 2006! Since then, a growing number of Jewish communities have been committing to use and promote Fairtrade products in their Synagogues, guaranteeing that farmers and workers receive a fair and stable price for their produce.

How to become a Fairtrade Synagogue

If you would like to join the growing number of Fairtrade Synagogues, your Synagogue Council must meet the three goals.

To apply, you then simply download the Synagogue Application Form  and return it to us by post to Fairtrade Synagogue Application, The Fairtrade Foundation, 3rd Floor, IBEX House, 42-47 Minories, London EC3N 1DN or by email

The three goals

You can apply to be a Fairtrade Synagogue if your Synagogue Council has agreed to meet the following goals:

  1. Use Fairtrade tea and coffee for all Synagogue meetings for which you have responsibility
  2. Move forward on using other Fairtrade products such as sugar, juice and fruit
  3. Promote Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight and other times of the year through events, worship and other activities whenever possible.
