Registering your campaign

When starting your campaign for Fairtrade status, send an email with your contact details to volunteer.university@fairtrade.org.uk. We will add you to our database.

Please submit this form by email if possible. This will help us to process your application more efficiently and allow you to celebrate Fairtrade status sooner.

Top tips for an effective application

Allow plenty of time for us to process your application (at least 1 month) and please do not plan any declaration date until you know that your application has been successful.
Goal 1 - include a signed copy of the Student Union Fairtrade Policy and signed copy of the University/College (authority) Fairtrade Policy, or joint policy as appropriate
Goal 2 - include a full list of all products available in shops, cafés and bars across campus. Please make sure you name the product brands, so we can ensure that they have the FAIRTRADE Mark – don’t just list generic products.
Goal 3 - list the meetings or groups that serve Fairtrade products and the products used.
Goal 4 - include a calendar and description of campaign events held. Be sure to enclose event photos, copies of media coverage and examples of promotional materials.
Goal 5 - include a list of steering group members, their roles, details of groups or departments they represent and contact details so that we can keep in touch. Please send us at least two sets of minutes from your steering group meeting and information on how often you meet.

Renewing your status

Becoming a Fairtrade University or College is a great achievement but is only the beginning! You need to continue to increase awareness and availability of Fairtrade products across your campus and ensure that new students and staff are aware of your Fairtrade status.

You will need to renew your status every year – we will send you a reminder. In the meantime, make sure your Steering Group meets regularly and keep a record of events, activities and successes.
