Who is the greenest of them all?
Congratulations to Sainsbury’s and M&S – awarded the first ever straight A scores in recognition of their efforts to tell shoppers about sustainability in their shopping choices.
Green to the Core?, a report by Consumer Focus, has scored all the major supermarkets on how they inform and encourage shoppers in four areas: climate change, waste, sustainable fish and sustainable farming.
Topping the ranks for fairness is The Co-operative, with all their own brand tea, coffee, chocolate and sugar Fairtrade certified.
Recent research also shows that 54% of shoppers say they are buying more environmentally responsible products than two years ago, bringing ethical shopping firmly into the mainstream.
The study highlights the gap between the top and bottom performing supermarkets is getting wider, with some retailers running the risk of being left behind on sustainability.
