10 February 2004

SUBTV present an evening to promote FAIRTRADE featuring Starsailor, Shack, Hal and Fred Deakin (Lemon Jelly DJ Set) at the Coronet in London on the 27th of May.

SUBtv will be broadcasting exclusive footage about Fairtrade in the run up to the gig in university and college bars and unions, encouraging people to look for the FAIRTRADE Mark and buy Fairtrade.

Starsailor have confirmed that they will play a one off live show as part of this series of events to promote Fairtrade. Singer, James Walsh comments "We're delighted that we can help raise the profile of Fairtrade who are gradually levelling the playing field of international trade". This Fairtrade gig joins other SUBtv music exclusives including exclusive Coldplay and 50 Cent programming that have already been broadcast across the SUBtv network in 2004.

The FAIRTRADE Mark is the UK’s independent certification label that guarantees that the producer has received a fair price. Shoppers can now choose from over 250 products from over 100 companies, and more than 300 catering suppliers nationwide offer Fairtrade products from coffee to fresh fruits.

The Fairtrade Foundation certifies and promotes Fairtrade. It was set up in the early 1990s by agencies including Cafod, Christian Aid, Oxfam, Traidcraft Exchange and the World Development Movement to respond to the human consequences of collapsing world commodity prices. Proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to the Fairtrade Foundation.

SUBtv broadcasts on a national network of plasma screens in 54 student union bars and venues. SUBtv programming is a mix of music videos, live recordings, interviews, animation, comedy and film. It works in conjunction with unions, media courses and sports teams to create programming bespoke to students, sometimes even bespoke to particular universities.
