"First of all we needed to get permission from our Headteacher. We created a PowerPoint show with information and a business plan. We also gave him a free sample. I think that improved our chances because he said ‘yes’!"

How Fairtrade is my school?

What is this for?

It is not a test and it will not affect the success of your application! It is meant to give a ‘before’ and ‘after’ picture to see how successful the Fairtrade scheme has been. The Audit is to find out what is happening in your school. The Questionnaire is to find out the level of awareness of Fairtrade among pupils, staff, or other members of the school community. The Audit can be done straight away but you will need to take the Questionnaire round to different people in your school for answers.

Who fills it in?

The Fairtrade steering group, but you will need to find people to answer the questionnaire!

What do we do with it?

Send the completed Audit and Questionnaire to the Schools coordinator (schools@fairtrade.org.uk) at The Fairtrade Foundation. Don’t ask the other steering group members to fill in the questionnaire as we assume that they’re already committed!

After a year, we will ask you to do the same Audit and Questionnaire again.

Find the Audit in Section 1E of the Action Guide and the Questionnaire in Section 1F of the Action Guide. Or Download the  Fairtrade Schools Audit in Word format.
