"First of all we needed to get permission from our Headteacher. We created a PowerPoint show with information and a business plan. We also gave him a free sample. I think that improved our chances because he said ‘yes’!"

- 12th June: University of Glasgow
- 16th June: Birmingham (The Birmingham and Midland Institute)
- 18th June: University of Westminster, London
What are the conferences about?
The conferences will be a chance to share ideas and learn from other schools as well as to ask all those burning questions of the Fairtrade Foundation. They aim to inspire and reassure those schools that are thinking about applying for Fairtrade School status, those already working towards Fairtrade status and those looking for ideas for renewing their status.
Who are the conferences for?
All schools are welcome to come along, but initially we are restricting each school to two teachers/adults and two pupils. Two sixth formers from each school are welcome to come along without an adult, provided they have permission from their school. As well as schools new to Fairtrade, we are looking for schools that can contribute their ideas and experiences, so please let us know if you would like to contribute with a presentation in any of the workshops by emailing schools@fairtrade.org.uk.
Meet young people from Kuapa Kokoo
As well as the opportunity for schools to meet each other, there will be a chance to chat with with Steven and Joycelyn, both 14, from the Kuapa Kokoo cocoa cooperative in Ghana. Follow this link to find out more about Steven and Joycelyn.
Workshops
There will now be a choice of three out of four workshops tailored for primary and secondary schools and, during the lunch break, a range of practical fun activities to engage the children.
When registering you will be asked to select your top two preferred options from the following workshops:
| 1. Meet the Kuapa Kokoo Kids | Join our guests from Kuapa Kokoo, the Fairtrade cocoa cooperative in Ghana. Joyceline and Stephen are the children of cocoa farmers and have come over specially to answer your questions, show you real cocoa pods and cocoa beans, and talk to you about where chocolate comes from. You’ll also have a chance to sample some Fairtrade chocolate! |
| 2. Getting started | Not sure where to start? Nervous about applying online? Worried about the Healthy Schools initiative or where to find products? Get some top tips from other schools on how to set up a steering group, run your first event, and get the whole school on board. |
| 3. Fairtrade in the curriculum | Mainly for teachers, these workshops look at ideas for incorporating Fairtrade into different subject areas, at primary or secondary level, with a chance to share resources and sample lesson plans |
| 4. Events | Want to know how to run a fashion show? Find out what other schools have been doing and how to go about organising events in the school, in the community and for Fairtrade Fortnight. |

Places for these conferences are limited to about 40 schools each, so book today to avoid disappointment. This form should be filled in by a teacher or other adult from the school. When you book we will contact you nearer the time with more details.
