Baboons go bananas for Fairtrade Fortnight

This week Knowsley school children donated Fairtrade bananas to the baboons at Knowsley Safari Park, as part of Fairtrade Fortnight 2010.

The children, and Knowsley Council who organised the event, hope to encourage more people in Knowsley, Merseyside to start swapping to Fairtrade certified products, this Fairtrade Fortnight.
John Flaherty, Service Director at Knowsley Council’s Directorate of Neighbourhood Services said: ‘We’re hoping this fun event will encourage people to think about where their food comes from and at the same time promoting and raising awareness of the benefits of buying Fairtrade.’

‘Fairtrade Knowsley’ – the local Fairtrade steering group – is hoping to make Knowsley a Fairtrade borough and get more residents, faith groups and businesses on board. They will be running Fairtrade coffee mornings and markets throughout Fairtrade Fortnight, as well as handing out free Fairtrade tea to local businesses and organisations who pledge their support.
