How to Buy?
How you get Fairtrade certified products into your workplace depends on the size and type of organisation you work for. Here are three simple steps to help:
-
Identify the decision-maker/procurement manager in your workplace.
In a small organisation this could be the office manager or team assistant; in a medium-sized organisation this could be the managing director or catering manager; in a large organisation this may be the corporate social responsibility manager, procurement manager or catering manager. Ask them to buy Fairtrade certified products for your workplace and offer to give them more information.
-
Find out where to buy Fairtrade certified products for your work.
A small company can purchase products from a local shop or supermarket; a medium to large organisation will probably use a catering supplier. You’ll need to visit our Catering Directory to find out which shops and catering suppliers in your region supply products carrying the FAIRTRADE Mark.
-
Visit the Catering Directory
This is a directory of catering suppliers and distributors which supply Fairtrade certified products, listed by UK region and type of product. So if you work in Reading and want to buy Fairtrade biscuits for your corporate hospitality meetings, go to the London and Home Counties directory to find a list of suppliers which matches your needs.

Hints and tips
It’s possible that your existing catering supplier already lists Fairtrade options for you to choose from. Check with them if they can supply them and if they can’t, ask them to start listing them. If they won’t do this, choose from our list of suppliers in your area that do currently offer Fairtrade.
Fairtrade teas and coffees should now be available for all of your catering requirements from kitchen areas and canteens to coffee, cappuccino, filter and vending machines.
If you are concerned that your workplace may not want to make the switch, hold a tea and coffee tasting event, or Fairtrade fruit breakfast or a chocolate and snack sampling session for an afternoon break.
