Each year for two weeks over February and March, Fairtrade puts a spotlight on trade through our Fairtrade Fortnight campaign. Together with the Fairtrade farmers and workers, and campaigners up and down the country, we highlight the difference fair trade can make to lives and communities.

Come On In to Fairtrade

In 2018 Fairtrade Fortnight ran from 26 February to 11 March and centred around the story of the Coobana Banana Co-operative in Panama. The co-operative was formed when a group of workers came together to push for change.

The company they had worked for, at the time controlled all banana production and while it profited from this industry, the workers often lived in poverty.

Over Fairtrade Fortnight we told their inspirational story and had the pleasure meeting one of the Coobana Co-operative members, Marical Quintero who joined us in the UK for the campaign.

Come On In to Coobana

The story of Coobana starts over a hundred years ago, when the United Fruit Company started exporting bananas from Panama. That one company controlled all banana production and while they profited from this industry, the workers often lived in poverty. This video tells their story.

Meet the Fairtade farmers

Fairtrade is 50% owned by farmers, and it is the farmers and workers who are at the heart of Fairtrade. For each day of Fairtrade Fortnight we featured a farmer, asking how Fairtrade has made a difference to their community, and also about the challenges that they still face.
