In response to the publication of the draft London Food Strategy by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, Tim Aldred, Head of Policy at the Fairtrade Foundation said:

“The Fairtrade Foundation welcomes the publication of the draft London Food Strategy, as well as the broad principles set out by the Mayor.

“In particular we welcome the Mayor’s pledge to commit to the purchase of Fairtrade products within the Greater London Authority, as well as championing fairly traded products among Londoners more generally. Ensuring  producers in developing countries are offered fair trade terms will help create a more sustainable future for the city.

“We look forward to seeing more details of the strategy in due course.  We encourage supporters of Fairtrade to share their views on the draft strategy at london.gov.uk/food. The consultation closes on 5 July 2018.”

The draft London Food Strategy was published on May 11.
