Fairtrade Foundation unveils e-learning platform for jewellers

The e-platform will offer a free short course aimed at those responsible for selling gold jewellery. It aims to support sales staff to talk confidently about Fairtrade Gold with their clients – telling the story, tackling the difficult questions, and helping them make a positive choice. It is suitable for anyone working in the jewellery supply chain, with a particular focus on the retail environment. The course will also be a valuable resource for people studying jewellery design and manufacture.

The course will offer jewellers the opportunity to become a sales ambassador for Fairtrade Gold in their business. Students will learn about the difference Fairtrade makes to gold miners and their communities, and how to encourage consumers to choose Fairtrade Gold.

The course we have developed will support jewellers and manufacturers to confidently sell Fairtrade Gold – raising awareness of the benefits and driving sales of this special metal. As demand for Fairtrade Gold grows, we encourage brand and store owners to take advantage of this free course by asking their sales teams to complete it, which will ensure they can respond to their customers professionally.’

The course will have five modules with a short quiz to pass at the end of each module. At the end of the course participants will be awarded with a certificate recognising that they have successfully completed the Fairtrade Foundation’s online sales training for jewellery professionals working with Fairtrade gold.

The course includes the following modules:

  1. Where gold comes from: Learn where the gold in your business comes from, how it is mined and the impact on people and planet.
  2. Fairtrade Gold explained: Understand where Fairtrade Gold comes from, how miners become Fairtrade certified and why all gold isn’t currently Fairtrade.
  3. The benefits of Fairtrade: Miners in Peru and East Africa are already benefiting from Fairtrade. Learn how, and hear some inspirational stories from Fairtrade Gold miners.
  4. Fairtrade Gold in your jewellery: Understand how Fairtrade Gold is crafted into your jewellery and how the Fairtrade Gold Stamp is applied.
  5. Selling Fairtrade Gold: Whether you already stock a range of Fairtrade Gold jewellery, or plan to offer Fairtrade Gold, your customers are likely to ask you about it. This module looks at all you need to know.
