The Fairtrade Foundation comments on the government’s impact assessment on the UK’s aid cuts

Commenting on the Government’s own impact assessment on the UK’s aid cuts, The Fairtrade Foundation’s Head of Influencing Hugo Forshaw said:

“We welcome the Government’s recommitment to spending £11.6 billion on International Climate Finance by March 2026. Maintaining this commitment was a key ask of our Brew it Fair campaign, which will ensure the producers behind our national drink can access the funds they need to adapt to the devastating impact of climate change on tea crops.

“However, there is no getting away from the fact that the drastic cut in the aid budget will do great damage to people in some of the poorest parts of the world, including the producers responsible for growing some of Britain’s best loved products like tea and coffee.

“We urge the Government to set out a roadmap to return aid spending to 0.5% of national income at the earliest opportunity.”
