Commenting on President Donald Trump’s recent trade tariff announcement, Fairtrade Foundation’s Senior Policy Manager Sophia Ostler said: “The global impact of the Trump Administration’s tariffs is still uncertain and unpredictable. The effects will vary depending on how long the tariffs are levied on individual countries and what trade policies they each adopt.
“What we do know is that the tariffs are expected to increase the short-term volatility in global pricing, the income insecurity for smallholder farmers around the world, as well as the cost of imported coffee, cocoa and bananas for US consumers. Fairtrade is closely monitoring the impacts of these policies on our partner producers, brands, and Fairtrade consumers.”
